GSL - FAQ

Frequently Asked Question - FAQ

How are teams formed?
Teams are formed independently by the coaches/managers for each school.  Information regarding tryouts will be communicated to the students at each school.
Coaches/Managers oversee all tryout and select of forming the team.  We encourage larger schools with higher tryout turnout to have more than 1 team.    Players may
ONLY play on one middle school team per season.  Teams may only play in one middle school league per season.  Teams can be formed of players from AYSO
Core/United program, Club teams, or new to soccer. Team formation is left up to the sole discretion of the coach/manager of each team.  See Formation of Teams for more info.

Is this program an approved AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) program?
In October 2018, the Goal Soccer League was developed and approved by the AYSO Area 5B Task Force made up of the Regional Commissioners from Area 5B.  After it was developed the AYSO Section Director submitted the plan and details to the AYSO President and National Board.  The program was approved by the AYSO National Board on November 10, 2018, to run under AYSO Labs.  By running the program under AYSO Labs we are able to structure this program differently than the AYSO Core program while still operating under the AYSO umbrella.

I have club players on a team will this interfere with their club affiliation?

No, we welcome and encourage players on teams from all areas of soccer.  This a community school team and should be a representation of the community
they represent.  Membership in the Goal Soccer League and/or AYSO will in no way interfere with any club or state soccer affiliation.

How are teams placed into divisions?
There are several factors in placement but the way we want to do it is to ask you.  The make up of teams change from year to year.  We do not need to place you in a bracket based on your past.  We can use that as a criteria but we want you to help in this decision.

How will schedules be published?
Schedules will be generated from Blue Sombrero and games will be on Monday and Thursday nights.  We are flexible on the schedule nights if we know in advance any conflicts.  Our goal is to get this out several weeks before the first game.

I don't have any referees, can you help?
You are welcomed to use your on referees but if you don't have access to referees we will have a referee assigner that handle that for you.  There will be a referee assignor fee and you will need to coordinate with that assignor on schedule changes and game location. Home team is responsible for coordinating and paying the referee at the game.

What is the game format?
GSL will follow standard FIFA rules including free subs, 11v11, and games will be 35 minutes halves with a halftime break. See  Rules of the Game for more info.

We don't have a field for practices or games can you help?
We can help get fields from an AYSO Region if you need space.  Reach out to your region contact for help on this.  If you have your own field space that is great.  We can cover your field with AYSO insurance if needed.

What do team fee cover?
That is determined by the coach/manager.  Many teams use the team fees to cover uniforms, field expenses, referees ect. Fee amounts may vary by team/school and are to be paid to the team manager.  AYSO or GSL are not responsible for the team fee or management of these fees.  See  Fee Structure for more info.

What should the team wear?

Coach/manager will select and be responsible for the team uniforms.

We had a player drop, can they get a refund?
Refunds - Once a player's registration fee is completed and submitted no refunds can be issued.  There will be no refunds for a player unable to complete the season.
This policy applies to the player registration fees ONLY. Any team fees paid will be managed by the team manager and refunds will be at their discretion. See Fee Structure
for more info.
